The use of emergency exit signage is prescribed in most building codes. However, it is not known to which extent this signage help people find their way to safety in emergencies. This very thing was studied in the fall of 2018 in experiments at Lund University. This presentation will discuss evacuation experiments using eye tracking to analyze to which extent evacuees notice exit signs. During certain circumstances, it was found that approximately 80 % of evacuees noticed exit signs during evacuation, and that roughly 50 % of those followed them. Different signs were also analyzed.
