Alternative and innovative fuel types are being introduced to power cars. These include mostly Liquified Petroleum (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and hydrogen energy sources. The alternative fuels bring a lot of new chances for vehicle industry, but they also introduce new hazards, requiring revised thinking with respect to safety within car parking environments. One of the most significant hazard is accidental gas release from a car's system, especially in underground car parks. Ventilation systems are widely used for the hazard mitigation and those designing is most often realized on performance based analyzes and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This paper presents possible accidental scenarios as well as full-scale experiment and CFD simulations, which demonstrate the ventilation systems influence in the case of accidental LPG release in a car park.
