Presented by: IJsbrand Van Straalen, Senior Scientist, TNO Current ASET-RSET analyses are based on so-called “worst-case” scenarios and a safety factor to incorporate a level of safety between ASET and RSET. Still there is no conformity amongst experts which safety factor and matching scenarios have to be used in practice. Within this paper it is shown that the actual value of the safety factor strongly depends on the considered case, which makes it impossible to derive widely applicable values for generalized circumstances. Instead an alternative approach based on the individual risk criterion and a reduced event tree is proposed. The opportunities of this approach are illustrated by a case study of a group home for disabled people.
